Rotary Meeting of March 6, 2014 “A Stroll Around Mono Lake” by Gary Wilson, Bulletin Editor.

The Meeting

Mari Peters visited and recommitted her vows to Rotary and we will be seeing her a lot more often now.  For those of you who don’t know -- Mari was a fanatical Rotarian for some time and a Past President who fell in love with the mystical figure of Paul Harris.  They got married at one time, but the difficulty of a truly spiritual life became too much for her, and she had to return to her second love…Banking.  Welcome back.

Kevin told the joke of the day, and stayed with Religion in a clean way and it was nicely received.  He received a nice ovation and walked a fine line between Religion and Humor.  God would have laughed.  He did laugh.

Ed delivered his daughters Girl Scout cookies, I ate them all.  Dr.s orders.  I had to eat them, Mary takes them away from me if I bring them home and I get sent to my room.  Plus, Walter eats too many.  I hid some in the house however.  They won’t be there long.

April 18, is Mayor’s Good Friday Breakfast.  Keith Ericson is the Key Note Speaker.   Joe Harding will be the MC and a cast of Rotarians will fill in doing Flag Solutes and Prayers.  We have a few past Mayors in the group as well.  This will be the first year that Floyd won’t be there.  My guess is he will be there somewhere.

Dave Reiman gave Carlos Donahue a donation from the Church for running the program … “Run for Education”

Bill Mason and his daughter Peggy were at the meeting…more later.

The Program

Mono Lake

A Scientific kind of guy made a presentation on Mono Lake.  It is on the East Side of Yosemite and when you come upon it you feel like you made a wrong turn and ended up on the moon when it had some water.  Salt Water for sure with the only life being that of Brine Shrimp.  Not the eating kind (at least for people), but the kind you buy when you have an aquarium and want to give the bigger fish a real treat.  I use to have one of those and watching big fish swallow little fish (shrimp) is a little creepy.   I think it is best to be a big shrimp (there is a dichotomy of terms), like Mike Briney.

That lake has lots of history and archaeological mystery to it.  Our speaker spoke in an organized fashion about the lake, but it is best to go to the web site for detail.

Brag Time
We had some time left over and Len decided to have Brag Time.  For those of you that don’t know that is when we pass a Jar and you can put some currency in there and “brag” on whatever you want, or simply talk about whatever comes to mind.  We don’t want to hear any change in that jar either.

Most of us talked about Julia and how much she meant to us personally and the club. She was my buddy and I will share more of my thoughts and others will do so as well on Friday March 28, 2014 at Chevron Park between 2 and 4 PM.

She will be missed.
