Rotary Meeting of 4-24-2014 “Wiseburn Comes a callin” by Gary Wilson, Bulletin Editor.

The Meeting
Full house for Len.  Not sure why, it must be his inspirational messages.  Lots of visitors from afar.  Joe had a long time Rotary Friend come in for Joe and Elyse’s RYLA show.  This guy was right out of Central Casting.  Daddy Warbucks of Little Orphan Annie comes to mind -- although more avuncular.  In looking at him from afar it appeared he had a birthmark on his bald head.  It was not a birthmark, it was a Rotary logo tattoo.  I am old).  28 years ago he stayed at the Hacienda and met Joe. This guy is cool (cool is an old saying ... I am old). His voice matched his appearance and he boomed a big hello.  He was there to go to RYLA and I can’t wait to hear how and what he did.  He would be a program in and of himself…all of him.  Joe, tell us more about him when you have time.

Dean announced that the District Assembly is May 10.  Everyone can go, it is a great day to see what Rotary is all about and if you are an incoming officer you should go.

Councilman Dave Atkins attended.

We had the usual exchange of clip boards, circulation of spread sheets, exchanges of cash etc.

Tom told another great joke…he does have the knack.

Joe fined Laura and she was on the front page holding a $200,000 check from our Great Neighbor – Chevron.  It was for the schools.

He fined Julie Stolnack for going to Paris.

Becky and Robin got fined for not bringing magazines.  He thanked them for nothing.

He fined Bill Mason for a huge box of magazines that they found in his garage.  Hopefully some of them were suitable for kids

He fined Elyse for having a commercial on TV.  She is big time now.

Sherry Hughs (a former Rotarian) attended who is his daughters God mother and provides the shirts for RYLA.  She was an excellent Rotarian and I wish she would return.

Dick recognized Joe for the Great Job he did at the Good Friday’s breakfast.  He was (is) great at that, and many things.

It was Shannon’s birthday and she had lots of announcements about the Ed Foundation and fund raising activity.

Elyse, June 6 fund raiser at the Comedy and Magic Club

Michelle announced that Revlon Walk for cancer is coming up and she could use some financial help.  You can put it on your bill, or send her an email and she will send you a link to the web page and you can donate that way.

The Program  (Chris Jones and Tom Johnstone, Super Intendent)

Tom is a 14 year Rotarian himself.

We received a nice presentation of the Wiseburn District, it’s history and it’s plans.  They are moving to El Segundo and will be taking over an old Aerospace building on Douglas.  There is a pool in the mix that sealed the deal.

For those of you that don’t know, there has been some controversy over the move from the Centinela School District to El Segundo.  Not sure if I am qualified to write about that here (or anywhere), but here are a few links one might want to follow in their research.  I think it best you go there rather than listen to me.
