Happening this Month
This month we have our regular meetings, plus three district meetings and a board meeting. This month we feature a variety of intriguing guest speakers every week, plus a special keynote speaker for the district breakfast on 8/24. For those that are new to the club, the district breakfast is usually attended by a few members, but all members are encouraged to participate as a way to get more involved in Rotary and to meet our governor and other influential members within our district. First Meeting of 2021-2022
✨Today was our first meeting of the new year with our new Rotary President, Edward Su. This was an in-person meeting at the Automobile Driving Museum (ADM) and featured a zoom online component to accommodate those who could not join in person.
🤩 Congratulations to our newly inducted members Jim Miller and Tom Hsieh! We welcome you and hope to see you at meetings and events! We look forward to getting to know you and working with you in our shared effort to help our world. 🌎
We also learned a little more about our new president Ed as he gave a brief bio and reviewed his goals for our club for the new year. Among the service projects and events that we are planning for, he wants our members to focus on fellowship, and getting to know each other. He is hoping for more engagement and participation from club members and more positive outreach into the El Segundo Community to help those in need. 💙

Malt Madness 2021 - A Great Success!
Malt Madness 2021 was a huge success! Thank you to all of our sponsors and vendors, and to everyone who donated to our silent auction and participated in our raffle. It was a fun evening with a turnout of nearly 400 people with live music, beer and wine, food, and a full casino! Thank you to everyone in our community for your support and we look forward to our next Malt Madness event in the Spring of 2022!

Meeting 7/22/21
On July 15th we heard from featured guest speaker Ed Lynch, founder and director of Mychal's Learning Place. Founded in 2002 as a social/recreational after school program for youth with developmental disabilities. In 2013 they added an adult program that is focused on independent living skills, job training and employment. More recently, they've also added two social enterprises, Mychal's Bakery and Coffee and Mychal's Prints, a t-shirt printing and embroidery business. These new divisions were created to help with job training and employment, community awareness while also being a source of revenue for Mychal's Learning Place.

Meeting 7/29/21
Today we met at Upshift Brewery and heard from three of our own Rotarians: Lt. Ryan Danowitz, Jim Miller, and Dean Seligman. We learned a little bit about each person, their background and hobbies, and what they do for a living.  We also heard from Chris Powell and Dean Seligman who gave us a summary of Malt Madness. Great job on all the hard work we all did to help make MM a successful event! We ended the meeting with a variety of raffle prizes.

Rotary Club Constitution

Rotary International is perhaps the most territorial organization in the world. It exists in 159 countries and cuts across dozens of languages, political and social structures, customs, religions and traditions. How is it that all of the more than 34,500 Rotary clubs of the world operate in almost identical style? The primary answer is the Standard Rotary Club Constitution. One of the conditions for receiving a charter to become a Rotary club is to accept the Standard Club Constitution, originally adopted in 1922. The Standard Club Constitution outlines administrative techniques for clubs to follow in holding weekly meetings, procedures for membership and classifications, conditions of attendance and payment of dues, and other policies relating to public issues and political positions. This constitutional document provides the framework for all Rotary clubs in the world. The Standard Club Constitution has to be considered one of the great strengths of Rotary to enable the organization to operate in so many thousands of communities.

August is Rotary Membership Month

August is Membership Month, which means it’s time to celebrate our Rotary club, our members, and the good we do in our community and around the world.

There are many ways to join in the celebration, but here are a few activities to get you started:

  • Say it loud, say it proud! Let everyone in your social network know that you are a proud member by changing your Twitter and Facebook profile to the I’m a Proud Member graphic. Copy and save the graphic as your profile picture for August.
  • We Are Rotary. Using the hashtag #WeAreRotary, post photos to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Linked-In of our club members at work in your community or abroad to show how Rotary makes a positive impact in the world.
  • Making a difference. Rotary clubs are known for the high-impact service projects they undertake locally and globally. Share stories about our own service projects and how they improve lives on Rotary Showcase. Be sure to follow Rotary International on Social Media to see what other Rotary members around the world are doing to celebrate Membership Month.
  • What does Rotary mean to you? Rotarians have pushed polio to the brink of eradication, delivered clean water to those in need, improved their local communities, provided scholarships to the next generation of peacemakers, and continued to do good in the world. Share the news with others and let them know what its like to be a proud Rotarian!
