Thank you to all those that donated and helped with the July 4th Watermelon Contest and the Snack Bar! It was a huge success and the Rotary club appreciates your dedication and service!

Our next big event is Movie in the Park. It will be held on August 3rd and will feature Spider-man: Into the Spider Verse. We will need help from all Rotarians to ensure this goes smoothly. Planning is actively underway. We are still looking for event sponsors - please let Lily know if you have any leads. Stay tuned for schedules and updates in the coming weeks. We will need everyone's help on Aug 3rd; please save the date.

There will be a meeting this week on 7/11 at the Masonic Lodge. Regular meetings throughout July will stay at the Lodge.  Plans are being discussed to possibly move to the Women's Club in August; Eloise will make an announcement about this in August. Stay tuned for details.
4th of July 2019
4th of July was a huge success for the Rotary club! The Watermelon Contest was MC'd by one of our newest members Owen Smigelski who led the event through 8 categories of competition. Prizes were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers and there was more than enough watermelon to go around for everyone. The Snack Bar was another big winner with its sale of churros, popcorn, drinks and more. So many thanks go to Valerie for making the event not only successful but also profitable!  Thank you to all the wonderful members who participated!

Did you know that sharks existed before trees?
Trees are young'ns compared to the geezer sharks that rule the sea. Sharks have existed for around 400 million years, while trees became their own official species only 350 million years ago. Other notable animals that outlive our leafy ancestors are the horseshoe crab as well as the jellyfish.

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS (RYLA)
Each summer thousands of young people are selected to attend Rotary-sponsored leadership camps or seminars in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, France, Argentina, Korea and numerous other countries. In an informal out-of-doors atmosphere, 50 to 75 outstanding young men and/or women spend a week in a challenging program of discussions, inspirational addresses, leadership training and social activities designed to enhance personal development, leadership skills and good citizenship. The official name of this activity is the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program (RYLA), although the event is occasionally referred to as Camp Royal, Camp Enterprise, Youth Leaders Seminars, Youth Conferences or other terms.
The RYLA program began in Australia in 1959, when young people throughout the state of Queensland were selected to meet with Princess Alexandra, the young cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. The Rotarians of Brisbane, who hosted the participants, were impressed with the quality of the young leaders. It was decided to bring youth leaders together each year for a week of social, cultural and educational activities. The RYLA program gradually grew throughout all the Rotary districts of Australia and New Zealand. In 1971, the RI Board of Directors adopted RYLA as an official program of Rotary International.
